The theme of New York Energy Week is “Collaboration and Investment,” building on Governor M. Andrew Cuomo ‘s sharpened focus on the energy industry as a way to strengthen economic development and favorable policies that support New York’s growing infrastructure needs.
The “by the industry, for the industry” initiative is being supported by key policy makers at the state, city, and federal level, including New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), New York State Governor’s Office, New York City Mayor’s Office, and the U.S. Department of Energy, among others.
“New York state has an ambitious agenda to become a leader in the clean energy economy and plans to invest heavily in strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure,” said Richard Kauffman , newly appointed Chairman of Energy and Finance at the Office of the Governor. “This formidable challenge can best be accomplished through public-private collaboration, where innovators of new technologies work together with government to create new market opportunities that benefit everyone.”
Mr. Kauffman will deliver a keynote “State of the State on Energy” address at the Opening Ceremony on Monday, June 24. Other marquee events of the week include Breaking Media’s Energy Awards Reception, the NYC-ACRE Startup Showcase, and an “Energy Data Jam,” commissioned under the White House Open Data Initiative. Launched by the Obama Administration last year, the Energy Data Initiative leverages open data as part of its all-of-the-above strategy to advance a clean energy economy.
“New York Energy Week is a timely platform to catalyze a more connected and transparent energy economy,” said Riggs Kubiak, CEO and co-founder of the Honest Buildings Network. “The real estate industry, which accounts for 75% of emissions in New York City, can gain from access to data and a more connected network of real estate and energy professionals to make buildings more efficient than ever before.”
Energy Solutions Forum, the founding sponsor, launched New York Energy Week in response to ongoing dialogue with industry thought leaders and market participants seeking new channels to promote advancement and investment through collaboration.
“New York is becoming an epicenter of energy innovation with billions of dollars of public and private sector funding and more than a third of the world’s clean energy patents coming from this state alone,” said Angelique Mercurio , Founding Partner at Energy Solutions Forum. “The time is ideal for energy market participants to come together in New York to increase collaboration and investment for everyone’s benefit in this traditionally fragmented industry.”
