Con Edison will host the official New York Energy Week Opening Ceremony June 15 at its headquarters at 4 Irving Place in Manhattan.
As is true of all NYEW meet-ups, this event boasted a healthy balance of professionals from a range of industries including energy, real estate, and finance. Each attendee had a central interest in being part of the larger conversation within the energy industry and between its many neighbors. One of the unfortunate, and yet frequent, pitfalls of most industry events is that all of the people attending the event have similar background and similar goals.

New York Energy Week kicked off Monday, June 16, with the Natural Gas Markets Breakfast at CME Group. The event brought together broad market participants — from upstream producers to financiers and entrepreneurs — to address the revolutionary shift in fossil fuels economics over the past six years.
The Need for Standards and the Right Market for Innovation
The transportation sector plays a large role in economic competitiveness and in environmental sustainability, which according to the EPA, accounted for 27 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in 2010, trailing just the power sector. Going forward, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects an average energy consumption increase of 1.1 percent by the world transportation sector.
Calling for Clear Guidelines and Incentives
Policymakers and industry leaders are increasingly understanding the importance of energy storage in a number of applications, such as integrating renewable energy sources and providing grid resiliency, which has become particularly exigent in New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
