Regulatory uncertainty in the United States clean energy market has, in no uncertain terms, damaged long-term industry growth. Despite the hype surrounding clean energy, still just over 5 percent of the U.S. energy mix is supplied by solar and wind sources. A lack of regulatory certainty has stymied research and development and smothered financing options, with fewer stakeholders willing to take the risk of investing in a volatile industry.

It’s an exciting time here at New York Energy Week. We’re less than a month out from New York Energy Week 2016, and we couldn’t be more excited about one of our most recent additions — Audrey Zibelman, who will serve as this year’s keynote speaker.
Ms. Zibelman was confirmed as Commissioner and appointed as Chair of the New York State Public Service Commission, by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in 2013.
The future for women in the energy industry is bright.
In a field where the majority have been men, women have made historical contributions for decades. Leona Woods was the only woman on Enrico Fermi’s team in 1942 when they achieved the first self-sustaining nuclear reaction. She was also the youngest on that team, at only 23.

It is a great pleasure to join with EnerKnol in celebrating New York Energy Week. New York City is committed to building a more sustainable, more resilient, and more equitable city, and to achieve this goal, we are setting bold, necessary goals as part of OneNYC.
For over a century, the electric utility industry has remained mostly unchanged, with the simple goal of supplying safe and reliable electricity to end customers. But with the advancement in technologies and the evolving preferences of customers, the industry is undergoing a significant transformation.
In the past, New York Energy Week has covered both the benefits and downfalls of this metamorphosis.
In the past, at New York Energy Week, we’ve paid close attention to the solar revolution. We’ve discussed the regulatory constraints involved previously on our blog.
And in 2014, we hosted a Solar Breakfast focused on how New York and the Northeast could increase their solar output and the necessary technologies to ensure that outcome. You can find highlights from the event here.
In the past several years, financing for solar projects has made huge strides.
New York Energy Week presents a unique opportunity for governments, businesses, investors, and other stakeholders to engage in a rich dialogue over the rapidly evolving trends within the energy industry. And possibly nowhere else are these changing trends being felt more than in the oil and gas industries.
The uncertainty within the oil and gas markets is at unprecedented levels. After 40 years of a steady rise in oil prices, we’ve entered a new era of cheap oil and gas.
New York Energy Week recognizes how crucial recruiting more women into the energy sector will be for the future of the energy industry and the knowledge economy more generally. That’s why we’ve devoted specific conversations to this issue for the last three years, including last year’s Women in Power Breakfast. And we’ve made this a priority because ensuring that women are entering the energy sector is especially crucial to America’s long-term economic competitiveness.
