Through programs and initiatives based on the vision of Governor Cuomo, the clean energy sector is thriving in New York State. The State has developed an extensive network for supporting existing and emerging clean energy technology companies and created an environment conducive to innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and technology-led growth.
The State is leveraging its investment with private sector capital to ensure companies are bringing new clean energy technologies to market. This investment is paying off. The State’s six clean energy incubators support clean energy entrepreneurs and early stage companies through professional networking, business advice and mentorship, technical support and access to angel and venture capital. Since 2011, more than 94 companies in these incubators raised almost $106 million in private funds, brought 91 new cleantech products to market, created 340 high-skilled jobs and retained more than 360 existing jobs.
The State is also providing support for an Entrepreneurs-in-Residence program, Proof-of-Concept Centers — which will movetechnical innovations beyond the lab and into the market — and a professional networking website for clean energy practitioners, CleantechNYConnect.com. Resources like these help to ensure cleantech companies find the support they need as they progress from an idea to a commercial product ready for deployment, right here in their home state of New York.
With New York’s wealth of international-renown resources, networks of higher education, and a diverse, well-educated workforce, the State’s innovation ecosystem is assisting clean energy businesses to thrive in order to meet New York’s growing energy demands.
