It’s an exciting time here at New York Energy Week. We’re less than a month out from New York Energy Week 2016, and we couldn’t be more excited about one of our most recent additions — Audrey Zibelman, who will serve as this year’s keynote speaker.
Ms. Zibelman was confirmed as Commissioner and appointed as Chair of the New York State Public Service Commission, by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in 2013. In her capacity, she oversees the regulation and safety of New York’s electric, gas, telephone, cable, water, and steam utilities. Ms. Zibelman has been an instrumental component in Governor Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision, a comprehensive energy strategy to build a cleaner, more resilient, and more affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Her work, which involves designing and leading the regulatory and retail market changes of the electric industry, will help protect the environment, create jobs, and promote economic opportunity throughout the state.
Throughout her career, Ms. Zibelman has worked across the public, private, and not-for-profit energy and electricity sectors. Her previous experience includes Founder and past President and CEO of Viridity Energy, Inc.; Executive Vice President and COO of PJM, a Regional Transmission Organization that serves 14 states along the Eastern United States, operating the power grid and wholesale power markets; and executive and legal positions at Xcel Energy, the New Hampshire PUC, and the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office. She is an expert in energy policy, markets, and Smart Grid innovation.
So we look forward to seeing you this June 13th as we kick NYEW off with a keynote address from Audrey Zibelman at this year’s Opening Ceremony, “Achieving the Next Generation Electric Utility: Enabling the Transition to a Dynamic Energy Future.” The event will be moderated by star analyst Zach Pollock, with a panel of energy leaders including Caroline Angoorly, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of the NY Green Bank, and Kenneth Daly, President of National Grid, among others. The conversation will focus on the uncertainty of the utility business model and how it might be overhauled, and some key lessons learned from regulatory and market reforms. We hope to see you at this compelling event, which is sure to properly kick off an exciting week at New York Energy Week 2016!
